Thought I would type some about something I really have never read about on Part15 Boards and maybe even here on the Ramsey Board. This might beat reading about getting a free Ipod! ;)
As most of you here know..I have been in the radio profession for many, many years..I have worked for so many stations since I was 13...(man that was a long time ago!) I am now 32 and still today I feel that to be a great on air personality you need to be airchecked on a weekly basis. Every station that I have ever worked for it was always the PD (Program Director) that sat down with me and pointed out all my mistakes.
What this consisted of (AirCheck) was a tape deck in the studio and everytime the studio mic was on, it recorded everything I said. At the end of the week..these tapes were turned over to the PD and the PD would sit down with me and we would listen to the tapes and go over anything that sounded like I was repeating myself over and over, or saying the so called word banned from any PD...."UM"..."UM"..If the PD found that I was getting in a rut in my on air breaks..he gave me pointers to breakaway from the rut I was falling in. Stations do this, to make sure that listeners do not tire when they hear there on air personal staff.
The reason why I post this here is because I know after all my years in radio and now doing Part15 radio..this applies even here. You can get listeners just by the music you play....but after the music plays...your voice breaks might be making listeners turn the dial..this could mean you need an AIRCHECK.....
Steps To Do This:
record yourself....
listen to what you record...
if you are driving yourself nuts with what you are saying...you are driving your listeners nuts as well...
whatever you hear yourself repeating over and over, don't forget your listeners are hearing the same broadcast!! ;)
To See & Hear My Proof:
Watch The ABC Show "ELLEN DEGENERES"
Count How Many Times She Says..."UM"
Then see how many times this annoys you!
I hope this beats the Ipod bla, bla here...my thoughts about the IPOD Bla here....the radio stations I know...are not using it for their broadcast.....should I say more..... ;)
