I forgot to mention one small thing ... In the Ramsey catalog I saw a device which would digitally record several minutes worth of comments (such as station ID). Can this be used in such a way that it sits in the line and once every thirty minutes or hour it cuts in and gives the 'translator' ID? Thanks.

The BS1 will not trigger itself. You would have to design a circuit that would trigger the BS1 at the time interval you desire.

Patrick:

First, I would check the FCC rules about how translator IDing is to be done (if any).

It may be as simple as making an ID that is played at the primary station site that also give all the translator call signs.

Another solution might be to have an ID that starts with a brief DTMF tone. The DTMF tone arrives at the translator site and triggers the digital player device and mutes the main audio feed until the local digital player finishes it's ID (perhaps with a triggering DTMF tone).

A competetent engineer could put this system together for you at a reasonable cost. Check with the other local stations -- maybe someone on one of their staffs can be contracted to do this.

Good luck!
