FM30 low output, GAL 5 does not fix

Hello,
I've been using my self built F30 for about a year now, being careful not to touch the antenna by putting the unit out of reach and only touching the on button. But it now acts like it was hit with a static discharge. Output power is way lower than before, and can only be picked up nearby (about 20-30 feet). There is also a slight 60Hz sum that can be heard on the audio output that wasn't there before.

After reading other messages here, I replaced the RF amplifier chip (the GAL-5) but after doing so, the output is still the same.

Any other suggestions about troubleshooting would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ted

Have you swapped out the audio input cable with a known good one, and use a different input source?
I assume you would have done that prior to change a surface mounted part.. but sometimes the basics are over looked..

No I have not swapped the cable. And I thought it was a waste of time, how would that go bad. But then I tried it, and it now works! You were right!
