As I read all dicussions about antenna, It reqire high (25 to 50 feet) then you can reach far, However ,the power of your transmitt is limited under 1 watt according to part 15 FCC. If you want to broatcast far 15 to 20 miles, I think ,you have to get the license from FCC, like LPFM ,because you need more than 1 watt to send your signal . Anyone think Am I right ? If I am wrong Please, teach me too. thanks

Part 15 power levels restrict us to WAY under a watt, it's more like microwatts (millionths of a watt) if you calculate out the Pt. 15 field strength spec with a unity gain antenna. Transmitting 15-20 miles will surely put you in the pirate category and invite a visit from the FCC. If you are broadcasting that far, they'd likely confiscate everything and we'd all hate to see that.

Part 15 microbroadcasting is intended for those who want to put up a neighborhood station. Shoot for 1/2 mile or so and you'll probably be OK. Some broadcast a mile or two and gaven't had any problems. Ramsey transmitters do typically 20 milliwatts or so (thousandths of a watt), which yes, is over the limit but this has not resulted in FCC visits. It's when you get past a mile or two that you're really pressing your luck.

I hope I haven't rain on your parade and you can enjoy your station within that range! It is a lot of fun anyway. Many on the board have regular listeners. My next door neighbors (the whole family) listens to mine at home and in the car, who knows who else?

Welcome to the board and have fun with it!

Bob

the whole point of this is for Pirate radio thats the fun part. Trying not to get caught. My friends and I are all going to have transmitters. We know we might get caught but oh well. We are going to play underground music that most people don't know about. We are just trying to get people to listen to music that isn't usually on the radio.

Hello Belvarta I think the 5/8 colinear vertical fm antenna would work great and it can handle up to 200 watts.Happy Broadcasting!!!

I think the sentiment that Joe is trying to get across (correct me if I'm wrong Grandpa) is that the majority of the users that have been around here on the board for a while prefer not to talk about "Pirate" or pirate levels of broadcasting. There are a TON of pirate sites on the internet, and we'd just as soone not have the FCC guys lurking around here...

Not trying to be rude, just explaining in advance why you might not get many helpful responses. I for one, don't want to recommend such things so they don't think I'm a pirate.

But be happy to discuss Part 15!!!

Good Luck!!!

Kevin
