THE BIRTH OF THE RIAB
More than a decade ago, Ramsey Electronics professional equipment group designed the very first “Radio Station in a Box” to complement its PX series of FM stereo broadcast transmitters. This series became known as the PXB series. The purpose of the PXB was to give the customer a means to immediately get on the air with an FM broadcast station. The very first PXB included our PX transmitter, a CD player, a cassette player/recorder, and an integrated audio mixer, all rack mounted in a road worthy shock case. The PXB series became very popular with commercial broadcasters as an emergency spare transmitter, LPFM broadcasters as their primary station, and with military, government, and other agencies for rapid deployment around the world.
Since the inception of the original Radio Station in a Box, there have been over 20 different design configurations, with nearly a thousand units deployed and active in the field. New configurations are constantly being engineered to meet the ever changing requirements of in-field broadcasting.
EXISTING MILITARY FULFILLMENTS
While Ramsey Electronics considers specific information regarding military and agency contracts secure and confidential, we can disclose that we have been providing large quantities of RIAB systems to various military branches, agencies, and approved contractors for more than 10 years.
MILITARY AND AGENCY RIAB CONTRACTING
Ramsey military RIABS are custom designed to meet specific military requested requirements, are not a commercial product, and are not available commercially or through third party vendors. Military, Agency, Defense, and other Governmental planners, ops, and contracting offices should contact Ramsey’s military division for further information.
SIMPLE & RELIABLE
The reason for the success of Ramsey’s PXB systems is their reliability. When designing our first systems more than 10 years ago, we realized that these units may be deployed in less than favorable environments. We also realized that there would not be an experienced “station engineer” present during deployment. Therefore, they had to be simple to setup, simple to operate, and had to withstand extreme environmental conditions. From the very first PXB system shipped and deployed to the latest generation of systems today, each component passes extreme reliability testing as well as extended burn-in testing before it is even considered for inclusion. This has resulted in an amazing low field failure rate even under harsh environmental conditions.
MILITARY AND AGENCY SUPPORT
Thanks to our many years of support experience, Ramsey Electronics understands military, government and agency requirements. RIAB contractual, logistical and technical issues are given top priority, and dedicated support personnel are in place to respond quickly to any request. Detailed manuals are always provided for the operations groups and field personnel responsible for the deployment of the RIAB’s, and tech support is just an email, Incident Report Form, or phone call away.
RAMSEY HISTORY
Ramsey Electronics is in its 38th year of business. What initially started as a hobby electronics business in the 70’s soon expanded into areas of commercial communications test equipment. In the 1980’s we became one of the largest manufacturers of pager and communications test equipment in the US. Ramsey Electronics also developed and received a patent on the first shielded test enclosures that provided hands-on and visual access to the device under test while maintaining RF isolation, and today we are the leading manufacturer in desktop RF isolation chambers for commercial, military, agency, and forensics applications. In the late 90’s we designed the first PX series FM stereo broadcast transmitter. While LPFM transmitters were in their infancy, we were one of the first to offer an FCC Certified transmitter to meet the needs of the LPFM market. Our FM broadcast group has rapidly developed and includes the RIAB military, government, and agency group of products, and the Ramsey PXB series remains the most frequently deployed RIAB by both US and coalition military operations groups worldwide.
